Civilians are endangered by armed conflict between Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) and al-Nusra Front at Yarmouk refugee camp.

Since 6 April 2016, approximately 5,000 to 10,000 civilians at Yarmouk refugee camp have been caught in the line of fire from an armed conflict between Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL, or also known as ISIS) and al-Nusra Front. The armed conflict has hindered the civilians from having access to food, water, and medical support.

ISIL and al-Nusra Front have been engaging in the armed conflict for control of the territory. They not only have opened fire with guns and explosive weapons but also have set fire to houses, a hospital, and roads.   On 13 April 2016, the residents of Yarmouk refugee camp appealed to the armed groups for a temporary ceasefire, but the request was ignored. Additionally, the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) has expressed disapproval towards the impact of the armed conflict on the civilians at Yarmouk refugee camp. The agency has demanded the armed groups to comply with the International Humanitarian Law (IHL) that stipulates protection of persons who are not, or are no longer, participating in armed conflicts. UNRWA has said that it is continuing to monitor the situation and will send resources to the civilians at Yarmouk refugee camp as soon as the physical condition is safe for them to enter.
