The bombing of a maternity hospital in the government-control part of Aleppo leaves 3 dead and 17 wounded.

On May 3rd, shelling by rebels hit a maternity hospital where three women were killed and 17 people, including children were injured. A shell hit a fuel tank of a military vehicle near the hospital, which exploded and caused the damage to the building.

This is the sixth assault on a medical facility in less than a week in the divided city of Aleppo. This was the first attack to cause casualties on the government-controlled side of the city. These attacks on hospitals and clinics have ignited a new wave of outrage from international humanitarian organizations. Since violence erupted on April 22nd, at least 253 civilians have been reported killed throughout the city. Healthcare, schooling, and even food are in short supply in the city that is constantly under assault from both sides.

In an attempt to revive the broken ceasefire, some local truces have been put in place throughout the country, but they have not been extended to Aleppo yet. As a strategic city for both sides of the conflict to control, Aleppo has faced extensive conflict, with civilians receiving the brunt of it.
