War related disabilities: a missing point in the policy architecture

A new in-depth study on war-related disability highlights the need to broaden the approach to humanitarian response in armed conflicts.

The research “Civilian casualties and war-related disabilities: an analysis of Justice, Development and Inclusion challeges”, by Valeria Rosato and Radwa Abdel Khalek Moustafa, carried out through the collaboration between L'Osservatorio and the Department of Political Science at Roma Tre University, addresses a still underexplored issue: war-related disability as a condition generating structural exclusion.

Through a sociological and legal approach, the study analyzes how the wounds of conflict turn into deep and lasting inequalities, offering interpretative tools to recognize and address these invisible forms of vulnerability.

The publication is released today, 3 December 2025, on the occasion of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, as a contribution to the global reflection on justice, inclusion, and post-conflict reconstruction.
