Multiple blasts in Thailand’s resort areas kill four and injure dozens.

On Thursday, 11 August 2016 and Friday, 12 August 2016, a series of blasts detonated in three of the most popular tourist spots in Thailand, just days after the country voted in favor of a military-backed constitution. Four people were killed and dozens were wounded.

Four blasts occurred in the high-end resort of Hua Hun, about 200 km south of Bangkok. The blasts killed two and wounded at least 24. Other bombs hit the island of Phuket, a resort town in the Phang Nga province, and Surat Thani, he gateway city to popular islands like Koh Samui in Thailand’s Gulf.

The police have detained two suspects in connection to the bombings. Footage of the areas revealed the men in the area of the bombings before, during, and after the detonations. The police have ruled out links to international terrorism, and are claiming the attack is an act aimed at causing chaos and confusion.

The locations of the explosions are known for their high volumes of tourist activity. Although the bombs were placed in locations with masses of people, they were less aimed at causing casualties and more aimed at causing economic and political unrest.
