There is no indication of the end of war for Ukrainian people. Statistics UN human rights office reports an alarming number of casualties, which amounts to 55,550 people, among which, over 3,200 are children. Indeed, some of them have been killed, while others have been seriously injured. Such figures demonstrate a 10% increase in casualties in 2025, compared to the previous years.
Living conditions are far from being ideal for those who have managed to return home safely. In fact, not only do sirens sound daily throughout cities, but Russian attacks to energy infrastructures contribute to compromise everyday life as temperatures are dropping below minus 20 degrees Celsius. Due to this extreme cold, Kenan Madi, head of field operations for the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) in the country, told UN News"children can't leave their apartments," .
Moreover, life darkness and isolation causes consequences from both social and psychological perspectives. All of this poses a severe challenge, especially for vulnerable citizens such as people with disabilities, older persons and people with cronic illnesses. “The most important thing is that this year actually brings peace and an end to the suffering of the people of Ukraine” concluded the UN Humanitarian Coordinator in Ukraine, Matthias Schmale.
