On Saturday, the 2nd of February, a suicide bomb targeted security forces guarding the Quetta district courts in the Balochistan Province of Pakistan. The bomb ignited several vehicles owned by the Frontier Corps (FP), a parliamentary security force that fights against the Pakistani Taliban. It destroyed trucks and motorcycles, as well as shattered  windows of nearby buildings. The explosion injured over 35 people and killed at least 8 others, including one child. The Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) claimed responsibility for the attack.

Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif condemned the suicide bombing and  instructed authorities to provide the best medical treatment for those injured. He also   ordered an investigation to determine the culprits.

TTP has increased its attacks in the Balochistan province over the past year, despite the Pakistani government’s efforts to significantly weaken the extremist group. The government launched a military offensive in June 2014, titled “Operation Zarb-e-Azb,” to fight against extremist groups. TTP has retaliated with numerous suicide bombings targeting civilians and security force personnel. Last month, TTP militants mounted  a suicide attack that targeted a polio centre in Quetta, the provincial capital of Balochistan. The explosion injured 10 and killed 14 others, including 13 policemen.
