Eurasia's regional director of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) denounced the violence in the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict

The ICRC operates throughout the world, helping people affected by conflict and armed violence. It is an independent and neutral organization that employs people in over 80 countries. For its work, the ICRC is mainly financed by voluntary donations from governments and the National Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies.

In his statement, the regional director of the Eurasian Red Cross, Martin Schüepp, denounced the bombings in urban areas on both sides of the Nagorno-Karabakh front line, which led to death, destruction and desolation. The statement was also made following the tragic death of a Red Crescent Society volunteer from Azerbaijan, father of two children, who was killed in the bombing. Two other volunteers were injured..

From the beginning of the escalation until the end of September, the ICRC urged the parties to take all possible measures to protect and spare civilians. Indeed, the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict risks spinning out of control and civilians throughout the region will suffer the worst consequences.  In addition to the civilian casualties, there has also been significant damage to civilian infrastructure, including medical facilities. The ICRC is in contact with the parties in a bilateral and confidential dialogue to ensure compliance with their obligations under international humanitarian law.
