In the month of July, at least 245 civilians were killed by US-led coalition airstrikes in Syria.

The deadliest airstrike on 19 July killed at least 73 civilians, and possibly more than 125 in the city of Manbij. Anas Al-Abdah, president of the Syrian National Coalition, as well as opposition activists have urged the US to suspend their airstrikes in Syria, but the US refused to stop.

The US-led coalition has been targeting alleged ISIS-held locations, but the airstrikes have killed hundreds of civilians. The latest US-led coalition airstrikes have killed at least 25 civilians in a northern Syrian town held by the ISIS. Continued airstrikes will drive Syrians “further into a spiral of despair and, more importantly, will prove to be a recruitment tool for terrorist organizations,” said Al-Abdah.

Army Colonel Christopher Garver, chief spokesman for the US military command in Iraq and Syria, argued that the civilian deaths may be a consequence of ISIS using non-combatants as human shields. Despite this possibility, the US military has gathered enough evidence to conduct a formal investigation into the allegations of civilian fatalities from airstrikes by the US-led coalition.
