The United States consulate in Jeddah and mosques in Qatif and the Holy City of Medina were attacked today as people were gathered to celebrate the final days of Ramadan.

No civilians were hurt or killed in the three separate attacks, which appear to have targeted Shia worshippers, U.S. diplomats, and Saudi security forces. The first attack took place at the U.S. Consulate in Jeddah, which also comes on the day the U.S. celebrates their independence. Only the suicide bomber was killed in this attack. The second attack took place in Qatif where a suicide bomber targeted a Shiite mosque, but no injuries or deaths were resulted from this assault. The third attack took place at the Prophet’s Mosque, in one of Islam’s holiest sites, in the city of Media.

“Security men noticed a suspicious person among those approaching the Prophet’s Mosque in an open area used as parking lots for visitors’ cars. As they confronted him, he blew himself up with an explosive belt, which resulted in his death and the martyrdom of four of the security men,” said a Saudi security spokesman.

The Muslim world has condemned the attack at the Prophet’s Mosque. These attacks came after last week’s dramatic attacks in Turkey, Bangladesh, Yemen and Iraq. No one has claimed responsibility for these attacks.
