Boko Haram fighters opened fire on funeral in village near Madagali (Nigeria) killing 24.

On the evening of June 16th, Boko Haram fighters rode into the village of Kuda, near Madagali (Nigeria) on motorbikes. They started shooting at mourners attending a funeral for a village leader. Initial counts had the death toll at 18, but it was later revised to 24 after more bodies were found in bushes around the village. The majority of the victims were women.

For roughly an hour, the fighters looted houses and took food supplies. They also set fire to many homes. Many residents had previously fled, but had returned after unsuitable camp conditions. Now, Boko Haram has the capabilities of launching night attacks from their bases.

State House of Assembly member Emmanuel Tsamdu had to send hunters into the area to collect details because no one else would go to the area due to fear. Kuda is close to the Sambisa forest, a large game reserve where Boko Haram fighters are known to hide. The village was previously attacked in February.
