At Least 80 People Died from 3 Suicide Bombings in Baghdad IRIN

At least 80 people were killed by 3 suicide bombings in Baghdad.

On Wednesday, 11th of  May 2016, 3 suicide bombings occurred throughout Baghdad, , killing at least 80 people and injuring many more. The first bomb was detonated at a market in Sadr City.  The second bomb  exploded at a security checkpoint in Kadhimiya. The third bomb was discharged at a security checkpoint in Jamia. The Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL, or also known as ISIS) claimed responsibility for the attacks.  They noted that they were targeting Shi’ite militiamen, alluding to the sectarian conflict  between Sunni  and Shi’ite Muslims.Ján Kubiš, Special Representative of the Secretary-General for United Nations Assistance Mission in Iraq (UNAMI), condemned the bombings in a press review.  Since the bombings were part of the armed conflict between Iraqi government and ISIL, they are being addressed as part of a continuous effort by the Iraqi government and its allies to eliminate ISIL.
