A police officer was killed and at least nine people were injured by two consecutive bombings in Peshawar, Pakistan.

On Wednesday, 18 May 2016, two consecutive bombings occurred in Peshawar, Pakistan, killing a police officer and injuring at least nine people. The first bomb was detonated when police officers were patrolling the neighbourhood of Mathra. The second bomb was  detonated about 20 minutes later in the same vicinity as rescue workers, as well as other police officers, were assisting victims of the first explosion, while reporters were documenting it.

While no-one has claimed responsibility for the bombings, they are being attributed to  Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP, also known as Pakistani Taliban),  an organization of armed groups  against the state of Pakistan.

The Pakistani government is addressing the threat of TTP through anti-terrorism measures, including increasing the presence of security and military forces in tribal areas along the Afghan border, establishing military courts for trials of terrorism, and implementing raids on suspected terrorists.
