IOM intervened to prevent rain and storms from exacerbating the already tragic situation of internally displaced persons (IDPs)

The rainy season brutally hit Yemen, already devastated by the conflict. The IDPs, whose homes had been reduced to rubble by the war, lost their homes again, thus remaining «without a place to stay».

Since the beginning of this year, strong winds and storms have partially or completely destroyed thousands of shelters in the country's various displacement sites. In particular, the governorate of Marib - where there is one of the largest refugee camps in Yemen - has witnessed a "heart-breaking scene" that has taken away from families all their properties. Fortunately, the International Organization for Migration (IOM), in collaboration with the Civil Protection and Humanitarian Aid of the European Union, immediately implemented an economic assistance plan to help these displaced families rebuild their shelters.

Last week, about 3,600 families, that are more than 25,000 people, received aid and funding from the IOM, which drew up its own emergency response plan taking into account specific and individual needs, and simultaneously provided 100 tents, 150 basic necessities, more than 8,100 plastic sheets, 5,260 sandbags and almost 2,000 pieces of rope. Thus, IOM’s intervention, which is one of the few hopes for dreaming and building a future, has been and continues to be vital for the survival of Yemen.
